The Weekend Recap 🏐
May Madness lived up to its name! I had the pleasure of shooting alongside Asphalt Green Volleyball Club at Spooky Nook Sports Complex this past weekend, and what a tournament it was. Court after court, match after match — the energy in that building was electric from start to finish. If you were there competing, cheering, or coaching, you already know how intense and exciting the whole weekend felt. And if you weren't there in person? The photos will give you a pretty good idea.
The Story Behind the Shots 📷
Let me be real with you — Spooky Nook is a beautiful facility, but it is not easy to shoot. Between the packed courts, competing gym lighting from every direction, and backgrounds absolutely loaded with spectators, benches, equipment, and activity, every single frame was a challenge. Getting a clean, high-quality action shot in that environment means constantly anticipating movement, adjusting exposure on the fly, and finding those split-second angles where everything lines up just right.
Volleyball is fast. A serve, a set, a kill — it happens in a fraction of a second. Add in a crowded background that can swallow up your subject, and you really have to work for every great image. But that's exactly what I love about tournament coverage. The chaos is part of it, and when you get that perfect spike or a dig right at the net with the focus locked in — it makes it all worth it.
